CLAY VESSELS AND SCULPTURE

What excites me about clay is the element of surprise when the fire takes over. I am reminded of the philosophy of Native American potters I have known that the clay has a mind of its own. Like life itself, clay lives with both firmness and fragility. Although the Southwest is known best for native pottery, my inspiration comes mainly from the rich and colorful deposits of ore and a multitude of rocks found in the Black Hills and Badlands of South Dakota providing a bounty of forms from the earth.
